To become a foster parent, you need to meet the following criteria:

  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Be single, married, or divorced
  • Have a stable income
  • Own or rent a safe home that meets licensing standards
  • Complete a home study and training process
  • Once approved, you’ll receive training and financial support to help care for the child placed in your home.
  • Children in your care will also get healthcare coverage through Medicaid.
